Hublot Continues to Ink Time with 5 New Variants for its Spirit of Big Bang Sang Bleu Collection

Hublot’s association with London-based tattoo studio Sang Bleu and its founder, Maxime Plescia-Buchi, started in 2016, when the Swiss timepiece maker decided to incorporate geometric patterns in its Big Bang series. The cult tattoo artist, whose celebrity clientele includes Kanye West, is also known for his bold, geometric tattoo art. The collaboration — this is the third time that Plescia-Buchi and Hublot have joined hands — continues with the launch of five new variants for the Spirit of Big Bang Sang Bleu collection this year. These include three limited editions: 200 pieces in titanium (Ref. 648.NX.0107.RX.MXM23), 200 in all-black ceramic (Ref. 648.CX.0114.RX.MXM23) and 100 in King Gold (Ref. 648.OX.0108.RX.MXM23). There are also two models, each set with 180 diamonds — one in titanium (Ref. 648.NX.0107.RX.1604.MXM23) and the other in King Gold (Ref. 648.OX.0108.RX.1604.MXM23).

The 42 mm watches with tonneau-shaped cases, which are toned-down versions of the 45 mm models released at the 2022 LVMH Watch Week, feature Plescia-Buchi’s work — superimposed hexagons, rhombuses and triangles — across the dials, the cases, the hexagonal bezels, the sapphire crystals, the hands and the straps. Under the triangular hands of each watch, you’d find the skeleton dial and the self-winding HUB4700 chronograph movement, also visible through the transparent caseback, with an ornate skeleton rotor. The power reserve amounts to 50 hours.

On each watch, the barrel-shaped Spirit of Bing Bang case gets an elongated bezel with a rhomboid structure, which continues towards the centre of the dial. The ellipsoid bezel also continues all the way to the integrated lugs and the V-shaped polished accents. The upper surface of the case is divided into eight facets, with the sapphire crystal also getting a faceted look. Like the previous variants of the Sang Bleu series, the latest collection gets a semi-skeletonised diamond-shaped hand set, with massive symmetrical counterweights. The watches come with  double-ended 3 o’clock chronograph minute hands while the sapphire base dial layer and floating hours ring lend the dial layout an open, technical look.

Each watch comes with a large arrow-tip hand with Super-LumiNova, revolving around the dial to indicate hours, placed on a black, decagonal track. The dial has a date window at 4:30, with two rings suspended above the movement for the running seconds at 9 o’clock and the chronograph time at 3 o’clock with rhomboid-shaped indicators.

The watches are finished on black rubber straps with either black ceramic and black PVD titanium deployant buckles or titanium and titanium deployant buckles. You can also get them with black smooth rubber straps with either King Gold and black titane deployant buckles or King Gold and black PVD titanium deployant buckles.
