Hublot’s Signature Mechanical Timepiece Makes Its Premier League Debut

As FIFA’s official timekeeper, Hublot’s commitment to the game of football is well-known. As part of this commitment, the brand’s signature mechanical timepiece has now made its debut in the Premier League. The timepiece maker has just introduced the Classic Fusion Chronograph Premier League (Ref. 541.NX.8970.RX.PLW23) as a 100-piece limited-edition collection.

Let’s step back in time for a bit. On 17 July 1991, the English First Division clubs signed the Founder Members Agreement, establishing the basic principles for setting up the Premier League. On 20 February 1992, 22 First Division clubs resigned from the Football League en masse. Three months later, on 27 May, the Premier League was established as a limited company. The 22 inaugural members of the new Premier League included Arsenal, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Chelsea, Coventry City, Crystal Palace, Everton, Ipswich Town, Leeds United, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Middlesbrough, Norwich City, Nottingham Forest, Oldham Athletic, Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, and Wimbledon.

Hublot has always been an ardent supporter of the world’s most popular football league. The Premier League is broadcast to 900 million homes in 189 countries and is followed by 1.66 billion people. This week, Hublot brought together the ambassadors and icons of the game for a unique event as part of the Arsenal vs Manchester City match. The latest chronograph from the Swiss watchmaker comes in a 42 mm satin-finished and polished titanium case, with a bezel that has six visible screws. The matte purple dial comes with a 30-minute subdial at 9 o’clock and the ‘Premier League’ logo; a crowned lion-printed seconds counter can be found at 3 o’clock.

There is a date window at 6 o’clock, along with sword-shaped hour, minute hands and a central chronograph hand. At 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock, there are two rectangular pushers in titanium to start and restart the chronograph function. The Hublot Classic Fusion Chronograph Premier League is powered by an in-house, self-winding Calibre HUB1153 movement, delivering 42 hours of power reserve. Turning the watch over reveals the titanium caseback, with the engraving of ‘Hublot’, ‘Limited Edition’, and the individual watch number, and a titanium oscillating weight. Finishing the watch is a purple lined rubber strap with a stainless steel deployant buckle clasp. The watch gets a 50-metre water resistance.
