Rado Releases the New Captain Cook x Cameron Norrie Limited Edition Watch in Honour of Wimbledon

Widely regarded as a ‘gentleman’s sport’, tennis has always been synonymous with honour and elegance, as embodied in the world’s oldest and grandest tennis tournament, Wimbledon. For the Championships this year, Rado has created a new Rado Captain Cook x Cameron Norrie Limited Edition watch. As the name suggests, the luxury watch brand has partnered with British tennis player Cameron Norrie (ATP ranking no. 13) for this watch.

Over the past three decades, Rado has sponsored various tennis tournaments, including Mubadala Citi DC Open, Swiss Indoors Basel and Open Parc Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Lyon. It has also been the official timekeeper for such tournaments. Cameron Norrie, who has represented Great Britain since 2013, is the latest player to partner with Rado. Earlier, the brand collaborated with Ashleigh Barty, former Australian tennis player and cricketer.

Rado Taps Cameron Norrie For New Watch Launch Ahead Of Wimbledon

The Captain Cook x Cameron Norrie Limited Edition watch features a 42 mm stainless steel case, lugs, crown, a polished stainless steel rotating bezel with a polished green high-tech ceramic bezel insert with engraved numbers, and markers in matte white Super-LumiNova®. The 823-piece limited edition watch gets a gradient white-green dial with trapezoidal, rectangular silver hour markers with white Super-LumiNova®.

The movement has 25 jewels, a beat rate of 21,600vph (3Hz), and it features an antimagnetic Nivachron hairspring.

The sword-shaped hour, minute hands get grey coating with white Super-LumiNova®, and the tip of the central second hand gets a dark yellow Super-LumiNova®. There is a white background, red numeral date window at 3 o’clock, and Rado’s moving anchor symbol is located on a purple backplate at 12 o’clock. Representing the game of tennis, the dial gets a green flange with yellow Super-LumiNova® dots at 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock, 8 o’clock, and 12 o’clock, corresponding neatly to tennis’s unique ‘15/30/40/game’ scoring convention. Powering the watch is the Rado calibre R763, which is based on ETA C07.611. Other timepiece makers call it Powermatic 80 movement, delivering 80 hours of power reserve.

The watch is a celebration of tennis and the talents of Rado YoungStars team-member and professional tennis ace Cameron Norrie.

Turning the Captain Cook x Cameron Norrie watch over showcases the screw-down stainless steel caseback with a tinted sapphire crystal that features Cameron Norrie’s silver-coloured signature. The stainless steel oscillating weight lies below the sapphire crystal. Engraved on the caseback are the words “Limited Edition, One Out Of 823”, a reference to the limited-edition series size, which was chosen to reflect the tennis star’s birthday, August 23rd (08/23).

The Rado R763 automatic movement is mounted in the Swiss watchmaker's signature high-tech ceramic monobloc case, ready to meet any challenge.

Finishing the watch is the stainless steel bracelet with a titanium three-fold clasp and Rado’s innovative EasyClip system. There is a pair of strap options available — a classic black leather strap with a stainless steel extendable folding clasp or a green-and-white NATO-style textile strap. This watch can also be termed a diver’s watch as it comes with a 300-metre water resistance.
