The New ‘Vintage Stamp’ References from Jaipur Watch Co. Are Beautiful Pieces of History

If you have a penchant for philately and vintage-inspired timepieces, then this collection is meant for you. Celebrated Indian timepiece maker Jaipur Watch Co. has just released its limited-edition “Vintage Stamp” watches to mark the inauguration of its first store in Gujarat at Ahmedabad’s Nexus One Mall. As the name of the lineup suggests, the references feature stamps that have been lovingly preserved by the brand over the years. The pièce de résistance of this collection is the authenticated King George VI 3 Pies stamp from 1937; it comes encased in a steel frame on a sapphire crystal dial.

As all history buffs would know, King George VI ruled as the King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth from December 11, 1936 till his death on February 6, 1952. When India and Pakistan gained independence in 1947, King George VI ceased to be the Emperor of India.

On releasing the Vintage Stamp collection, Gaurav Mehta, founder, Jaipur Watch Co., said, “What makes this launch so special is that the stamps featured in this collection are all authentic, making each timepiece a unique find.”  He stressed, “The highlight of the collection is the inclusion of the real 3-Pies denomination stamp featuring the portrait of King George VI." This is of course not the first time the homegrown watch company has spotlighted King George VI in its offerings. The monarch featured prominently in the brand’s One Rupee Coin watch in the past. This particular model had his portrait on one side, while floral patterns and denominations were spotted on the caseback.

The other 34 mm square stainless steel watches in the new collection also showcase vintage stamps, such as those from the erstwhile princely state of Nabha (which merged with Punjab in India after Independence), in such colours as blue, green, and red. Each watch gets an hour and minute hand. There are no hour markers — only the individual stamp takes centre stage on each dial.

Powering the Vintage Stamp watches is the Ronda 1062 Quartz movement. Turning each watch over showcases a “lotus design” on a closed caseback, with the engraving of “Jaipur Watch Co.” and “Made in India”. All models are finished on metal bracelets. Each Stamp watch, priced between INR 35,000 and INR 45,000, will be exclusively available at the Jaipur Watch Co. store in Ahmedabad.
