The Three New Flagship Heritage Moonphase Watches from Longines Embody Timeless Elegance

Launched in 1957, the Flagship collection has always represented the brand’s vintage novelties. Continuing the legacy, Longines has now revealed three new Flagship Heritage models, staying true to the core aesthetics of sophisticated, minimalist dress watches.

Honouring its craft of making some of the finest timepieces in the world, the luxury watch brand has successfully blended traditional design with avant-garde watchmaking techniques for the latest collection.

This new trio of steel-case models takes the Flagship Heritage form and integrates a sub-dial at six that has both a moonphase and a date complication.

Dress watches are a must in any collection as they thoroughly accentuate the beauty of formal attire. In horology, there are some rules regarding what makes a timepiece a dress watch. Basically, it is believed that a dress watch must be slim; have clear numerals, a sleek case, and a bezel; and have minimum complications. In other words, for a dress watch, less is definitely more. And the new timepieces from Longines offer all these qualities of a dress watch and more.

Each of the new Longines Flagship Heritage Moonphase watches comes in a 38.5 mm stainless steel, round case, featuring a polished, fixed bezel with shortened, chamfered lugs, and a stainless steel crown at 3 o’clock. The dials are the main attraction of the collection — they are offered in opaline silver, sunray silver, and sunray blue. The three models are powered by a self-winding Calibre L899.5 with 72 hours of power reserve.

Offered in opaline silver with gold-tone accents or either silver or blue with white-metal accents, these new moonphase-equipped Flagship Heritage models are 38.5mm wide and 12.4mm thick.

The first model is Ref. L4.815.4.78.2 and this variant comes with a silver opaline dial, golden eleven hour markers, golden dauphine hands, and a golden moonphase with golden hands and stars.

Inside these smaller cases, Longines has fitted their L899.5 automatic movement, which is based on an ETA caliber, a silicon balance spring, and a rate of 25,200 vph.

The second model, Ref. L4.815.4.72.2, has a sunray silver dial, silver eleven hour markers, silver dauphine hands, and a silver moonphase with silver hands and stars.

The new Flagship Heritage model exemplifies Longines' commitment to blending timeless design with contemporary craftsmanship.

Ref. L4.815.4.92.2 is the third model that has a sunray blue dial, silver eleven hour markers, silver dauphine hands, and a silver moonphase with silver hands and stars. Turning the watch over showcases the screw-down, stainless steel caseback with a yellow gold image of a ship on waves on a blue background. The model’s name, the reference number, material, water resistance, and other relevant details are engraved on the caseback. This blue dial model also comes with a silver date ring on the moonphase at 6 o’clock while each of the silver variants get a black numeral for the date ring. All models come with Super-LumiNova, along with elongated 3 o’clock, 9 o’clock, and 12 o’clock.

The watch is built with a sapphire crystal featuring multi-layered anti-reflective coating on both sides, ensuring clear visibility.

As the collection is relatively small in size, the moonphase doesn’t quite make its presence felt. Yet it is charming in its own way. Each of the new Longines Flagship Heritage Moonphase watches is paired with a brown, grey or blue alligator strap, sporting a new Heritage buckle.
