Tissot Introduces the New T-Race MotoGP™ 75th Anniversary Chronograph Collection

MotoGP™'s 75th anniversary is a momentous milestone in motorsports, underscoring the lasting appeal of one of the world's most exhilarating racing contests. Since its debut in 1949, MotoGP™ has been dominating the world of motorcycle racing, showcasing not only the riders' ability and daring, but also the cutting-edge technology and creativity of their machines. Legendary riders, such as Giacomo Agostini, Mike Hailwood, Ángel Nieto, Valentino Rossi, and Marc Márquez, have inspired generations; they have indeed left an indelible stamp on motorcycle racing.

Marking MotoGP™’s 75th anniversary, Tissot has launched the 2024 Tissot T-Race MotoGP™ Chronograph series with mechanical and quartz movements. Tissot’s association with MotoGP™ began 25 years ago. In fact, it is one of the longest associations between a timepiece maker and a sports organisation. Both worlds have also served as a platform for technical innovation, with the manufacturers pushing the limits of what is possible on two wheels and the wrist in their search for dominance.

Tissot T-Race Chronograph Valjoux 75th Anniversary – 2024 Edition

In this category, Tissot has unveiled two references. These include Ref. T141.427.27.041.00 that comes with a black PVD coating and Ref. T141.417.17.047.00 with a stainless steel bezel. Both models have 45 mm stainless steel cases and blue dials.  The automatic model is limited to 2024 timepieces while the quartz model is restricted to 8000 pieces.

As far as the first model is concerned, the black PVD bezel is designed to resemble the intricacies of a brake disc, evoking motorcycle engineering. At the same time, the case's midsection expertly mimics the cooling fins found on motorcycle engines. The crown and the pushers for the chronograph and date correction at 10 o'clock add to the allure; the power look clearly pays homage to the adrenaline-fuelled world of MotoGP™. The Tissot T-Race MotoGP™ 75th Anniversary Chronograph 2024 Limited Edition also has a multi-level dial that embraces the MotoGP™ colours of blue and red. The sloping inner bezel holds the tachymeter scale, which transitions to the minutes/seconds ring. This ring is aggressively divided with prominent trapezoid metallic hour markers filled with SuperLumiNova.

Ref. T141.427.27.041.00 also gets a separate subdial at 9 o'clock that keeps track of running seconds, while the subdials at 3 o'clock and 6 o'clock handle chronograph functions, tracking elapsed minutes (up to 30 minutes) and 12 hours respectively. Notably, the primary chronograph seconds hand is bright red in colour, matching the little hand for running seconds. This departure could have been an intentional move to ensure clear visibility of the red ‘75’ for the 75th anniversary of the MotoGP™ emblem, which is incorporated into the 30-minute countdown.

The date window appears at 4:30. The dial's transparent base is an interesting addition; although the movement is hidden, the date disc is visible and provides a slight depth. Powering this model is the Swiss Tissot automatic movement with a 68-hour power reserve. Turning the watch over showcases the see-through caseback with an oscillating weight and the engraving of the individual watch number out of 2024.

The next model ― a quartz one ― in this lineup gets red-coloured Arabic 12 o’clock, 4 o’clock, 8 o’clock, and a central second hand. The watch also has a white 60-minute track on the outer periphery, a 30-minute subdial at 10 o’ clock, a 12-hour counter at 2 o'clock, and a 60-second subdial at 6 o’clock. There are stainless steel pushers at 2 o’clock, 4 o’clock for the chronograph function, and a crown at 3 o’clock. This model is powered by a Quartz EOL movement and a Renata 394 battery type. Turning the watch over showcases the closed stainless steel caseback with the engraving of the individual watch number.

The Swiss timepiece maker has also added two more references to its quartz collections. The first one is Ref. T141.417.11.031.00, which gets a white dial, a grey tachymeter scale on the outer periphery, and white subdials. At 10 o’clock rests the 30-minute subdial while the 12-hour subdial is spotted at 2 o’clock and the 60-second subdial at 6 o’clock; there is a date window at 4:30. Ref. T141.417.11.051.01, on the other hand, gets a black dial, black subdials, a black tachymeter scale, and a black-background date window.

Both watches are housed in 45 mm stainless steel cases, with stainless steel bezels. Furthermore, these references are powered by the quartz EOL movement and a Renata 394 battery type. Turning each watch over showcases the closed stainless steel caseback. The watches are finished on stainless steel bracelets.
