YEMA Introduces its New Urban Field Collection

As the official partner for the French Armed Forces, it is no surprise that French timepiece maker YEMA continues to bank on military inspirations for a wide variety of watches. Take the new YEMA Urban Field collection, featuring two case sizes and five dial colours. The launch of the new watches follows last month’s unveiling of the 300-piece, limited-edition chronograph, YEMA Rallye 5 Turbo.

Like most French brands, YEMA has been associated with the country’s military forces for a long time. In fact, its vintage military watches have been used by the French Armed Forces for several decades now. As the brand puts it, YEMA “equips the French Armed Forces with indestructible tool watches”, manufactured as per specifications of military personnel.  A watch genre in itself, many contemporary military watches have been inspired by their predecessors that survived the greatest battles on Earth.

The new YEMA Urban Field collection can be described as military-inspired as well. It features a stainless steel case in either 37.5 mm or 40 mm case size, thus catering to a wider customer base. The case is topped with a double-domed sapphire crystal glass, complete with a thin bezel and solid lugs. Each watch comes with a large crown at 3 o’clock for a better grip to not only set the time, but to also help in winding the watch.

The new YEMA Urban Field variant is a time-only watch that comes in five colours — white, black, green, blue and ochre, inspired by military dials featuring sandblasted effects. The dauphine hands are polished and coated with Super-LumiNova. The field-style hour markers include Arabic numerals for the odd hours and various geometrical shapes for the even ones — an inverted triangle at 12 o’clock, a horizontal bar at 6 o’clock and circles for the rest. On the outer periphery of the watch is the minute track.

Powering the YEMA Urban Field collection is the manual winding Swiss calibre, Sellita SW210-1b, with  42 hours of power reserve. Turning each watch over showcases the skeleton caseback with a stainless steel oscillating weight.

The collection is delivered with a choice of two steel bracelets — a  Bonklip-style bracelet or a polished beads-of-rice bracelet. Furthermore, all watches are delivered with additional colour-coordinated leather straps. These straps are crafted in the Franche-Comté region of France and feature a textured embossed pattern and top stitching.
