A Vault of the Exceptional: Jaeger LeCoultre to Arrive in Hong Kong with an Unveiling of the Vintage

On October 13, Hong Kong will stage an exhibition in which Jaeger‑LeCoultre will unveil 10 vintage timepieces, curated from the years 1931 to 2003 and available worldwide from that date. This presentation will mark the latest chapter of The Collectibles, the Maison’s first in‑house programme devoted to sourcing, restoring and offering museum‑grade watches from its golden age. Seventeen landmark models, spanning the mid‑1920s to the early 1970s, will provide the source material, underscoring Jaeger‑LeCoultre’s enduring heritage and artistry.

The Deciding Workshop

Few manufactures keep a restoration atelier. Jaeger-LeCoultre's employs 10 master watchmakers who service movements, rebuild parts by hand and draw on heritage stocks to replace what time has taken, leaving the patina untouched. Admission is severe. Heritage experts judge originality, condition and mechanical integrity, then weigh documented history and rarity.

A Book of the Vintage

The Collectibles Book is the most complete reference on vintage Jaeger-LeCoultre yet assembled. The Maison's heritage experts spent two-and-a-half years on it, drawing on more than 160 archival documents to catalogue 44 calibres, over 100 references and no fewer than 237 dials. Collectors gain a field guide to the golden age. Historians gain an account of how the modern mechanical watch evolved across half a century and of the Manufacture's part in it. It is available to buy now.

The Seven Capsules:

Each capsule is a single curation, released in turn so that collectors may become the next patron of its stories.

Capsule I

Twelve pieces that read as a survey of the house; Duoplan Secret and Reverso Small Seconds sit beside the Geophysic and Geomatic, while Deep Sea Shark, Deep Sea Barracuda and Memovox Polaris carry the diving lineage.

‍

Capsule II

Eleven pieces gather around the alarm. The Memovox appears as Polaris II, Automatic Calendar and Snowdrop, with the Futurematic E501 and a yellow gold Triple Calendar for company.

‍

Capsule III

Scale is the argument. Nine pieces run from the 16 mm Reverso Lady to the 50 mm Memovox Polaris II, with the 101 Lady's Watch and the Master Mariner Deep Sea Barracuda between them.

‍

Capsule IV

A monograph on the Duoplan. Nine variants, each with its own name and silhouette, among them Empire, Chaine, Tuile and Griffe, lead to the white gold Calibre 101 Riviere, barely 4.9 mm deep.

‍

Capsule V

Eight Reverso models in steel and gold, devoted to the 1931 reference. Four Dame versions, the Cordonnet and two Small Seconds make a close study of one design.

‍

Capsule VI

Twelve pieces, with the Reverso in its most expressive registers: Art Deco, Sun Moon and Corvo. The Triple Calendar, Memovox Parking and Geomatic E560 complete the group.

‍

Capsule VII

Ten pieces arrive on October 13. Their references remain undisclosed, and registration for notification is open.

‍

Six capsules have passed through the atelier, and US listings show nearly every piece already sold. Restoration takes time, provenance is finite and a watch of this calibre rarely lingers. Such is the measure of a house whose legacy rests as much on design as on mechanism: cases that pivot, dials that remain composed, proportions that appear as resolved today as when first drawn. Jaeger‑LeCoultre has long treated beauty as an engineering problem, and these watches stand as proof.
