TAG Heuer Ushers in the Year of the Dragon with New Carrera Chronographs in Rose Gold and Steel

Swiss luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer has released a pair of limited-edition timepieces to celebrate the forthcoming Chinese Lunar New Year, which marks the Reign of the Dragon. Effortlessly blending Chinese cultural richness with the brand’s racing DNA, these timepieces encapsulate the essence of the Year of the Dragon. The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Year of the Dragon comes in two versions — one crafted in rose gold (Ref. CBN2048.FC8323) and the other in steel (Ref. CBN201H.FC6553).

The Dragon, according to ancient Chinese mythology, is a supernatural being with benevolent powers; it has been a symbol of imperial strength and unity for thousands of years. The Dragon is also peculiar to the Chinese Zodiac as it’s a creature that doesn’t exist in the physical world, thereby holding a special place in Chinese culture. In a way, it represents the spirit of TAG Heuer, signifying qualities of power and charisma. This synergy is at the core of the timepieces – bold designs mixed with precise movements.

The Details

The steel version is presented with a sunray-brushed silver dial while the rose gold version boasts a sunray-brushed 18 ct 5N rose gold-plated dial. The dials are adorned with rhodium-plated or 18 ct 5N rose gold-plated indexes, enhanced by a vibrant red lacquer, adding a visual harmony. The signature reverse panda dial design has been achieved with distinct red “azuré” subdials at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock, ensuring a captivating contrast.

The central hand is in red lacquer, gracefully dancing on the dial. The dial also features a discrete calligraphic Dragon character at 6 o’clock. The brand’s commitment to honouring heritage within a contemporary design is evident in these elements. Even the caseback reveals a printed Chinese Dragon figure around the sapphire glass. It is also engraved to indicate the watch’s limited release – “Limited Edition” along with “One of 300” for the steel version and “One of 50” for the more exclusive 18 ct 5N rose gold version.

Each watch is powered by the Calibre Heuer 02, which is visible through the stunning open caseback. The movement is developed and produced in-house by TAG Heuer and offers utmost timekeeping precision and performance with its vertical clutch and column wheel. It also delivers an 80-hour power reserve.

Each watch has a red alligator leather strap that complements its steel or 18 ct rose gold case. The watches are presented in a special box in a bright red colour that is accentuated by the Chinese Dragon symbol in elegant beige.
