A Tale of Two Dials: Breguet Releases Two Distinct Type XX Chronographe 2075 Variants

To mark its 250th anniversary, Breguet has unveiled two interpretations of its coveted Type XX Chronographe 2075: one with a black anodised aluminium dial and the other, a limited edition of 250 pieces, featuring a solid silver dial. Both timepieces are crafted in Breguet gold — an exclusive alloy with blond highlights — exemplifying the brand’s dedication to innovation and heritage. Inspired by an iconic ‘civil’ chronograph first introduced in 1955 and bearing the serial number 1780, these models honour Breguet’s enduring legacy while showcasing its technical mastery.

The Aluminium Dials

Honouring the ingenuity of Louis Breguet, who pioneered the use of duralumin (an alloy composed of 95% aluminium) in aircraft construction, Breguet has equipped its Type XX 2075 with a dial crafted from this material, a first for the brand. A discreet ‘Al’ marking between 7 and 8 o’clock confirms its presence.

To achieve a black hue reminiscent of the historic 1955 model, Breguet has used anodisation, a process that creates a thickened oxidation layer, enhancing corrosion resistance. Leveraging the latest advancements in the field, the brand applies deep black anodising with high mechanical resilience, currently employed in aerospace technology. This results in improved legibility and durability.

The second interpretation of the new Type XX remains true to the historic N°1780 timepiece, this time in its original form, with a silver dial. This model features a solid silver dial with a refined vertically brushed finish, exuding understated sophistication. A subtle ‘Ag925’ marking between 7 and 8 o’clock discreetly acknowledges the precious metal beneath. Distinguishing this version is the presence of a tachymeter, a scale designed for measuring speed over a given distance.

Both dials showcase the exquisitely delicate, applied Breguet name in Breguet gold. On the silver edition, applied Arabic numerals and hour markers — also in Breguet gold — enhance its overall aesthetics.

The Movement

The calibres powering these two models are refined variations of Breguet’s high-performance, 5-Hz calibre 728, first introduced in 2023. They incorporate the flyback function, enabling instant reset and restart with a single press of the pusher at 4 o’clock. For the first time, these models feature manually wound versions of the Breguet calibre 728, both gilded in Breguet gold.

The calibre 7279, housed in the black-dialled version, includes a 15-minute counter at 3 o’clock while the calibre 7278 in the silver-dialled variant features a 30-minute counter at the same position. Both models are equipped with a small seconds display at 9 o’clock.

A transparent caseback reveals an exquisite hand-crafted engraving from Breguet’s workshops, depicting the Breguet 19 aircraft soaring through its 1930 flight route. The frosted finishing on the European and North American land masses contrasts elegantly against the smooth expanse of the Atlantic Ocean, adding a touch of historical significance to each timepiece.

Breguet Gold

With a diameter of 38.3 mm, identical to that of the historic 1955 timepiece, and a thickness of 13.2 mm, the case is crafted entirely in Breguet gold, an exclusive alloy enriched with silver, copper, and palladium. First introduced with the Classique Souscription 2025 watch, this signature gold lends the timepiece a distinguished brilliance.

The slim, bidirectional rotating bezel features numerals in black for the black-dialled version and in blue for the silver-dialled version. Each crown proudly bears the emblematic ‘B’ of Breguet. Completing the look, both models come with interchangeable leather straps — gradient black for the black-dialled version and gradient blue for the silver-dialled edition.
