Autumn on the Wrist: the New Oris x Cervo Volante

As the crisp air of autumn descended upon Switzerland, the dense forests of the Waldenburg Valley surrounding the Oris factory in Hölstein began to reveal their rich, fiery hues. It was against this breathtaking seasonal backdrop that the independent Swiss watchmaker recently announced a beautiful new chapter in sustainable luxury: a return to its collaboration with Cervo Volante, captured perfectly in the new burgundy-coloured Oris x Cervo Volante.

Founded in 1904, Oris has spent over a century charting its own unique horological path. As one of the few remaining independent Swiss watch brands crafting purely mechanical timepieces, the Maison has heavily championed its “Change for the Better” sustainability initiatives. This ethos aligns seamlessly with Cervo Volante. Founded in 2017 by two female entrepreneurs with backgrounds in biotech and wildlife management, the Swiss brand has built for itself a formidable reputation turning natural byproducts into sustainable shoes, jackets, bags, and leather accessories.

Every year, Swiss authorities carefully manage the local mountain deer population to protect the Alpine landscape. Rather than seeing the resulting hides discarded, Cervo Volante upcycles them. Treated naturally in one of Switzerland’s last remaining vegetable tanneries, the leather is left entirely unaltered. Natural imperfections are celebrated rather than erased, resulting in a beautifully bespoke, environmentally conscious strap that will develop a unique patina over time.
DEEP ROOTS AND HOROLOGICAL HERITAGE
A story so deeply rooted in Swiss heritage requires the perfect canvas, making the Big Crown Pointer Date the natural choice. As the undisputed icon of the Oris archives, the Big Crown has been a constant in the collection since 1938. Originally designed as an indispensable tool for early aviators, its deliberately oversized crown allowed pilots to adjust their watches without removing their thick leather flight gloves. Over the decades, it has evolved from a rugged aviation instrument into a timeless sartorial classic, beloved by collectors for its distinctive fluted bezel and signature pointer date complication.

This special edition respectfully continues that rich legacy. Housed in a perfectly proportioned 40mm stainless steel case, the watch frames a striking deep burgundy dial that forms a stunning, richly toned backdrop to the iconic pointer date hand. Powered by the highly reliable Oris 754 movement that guarantees a 41-hour power reserve, the timepiece effortlessly marries Oris’s mechanical mastery with Cervo Volante’s artisanal craftsmanship. The brown Cervo Volante sustainable leather bracelet perfectly complements the rich burgundy of the dial, adding a sophisticated vintage-inspired edge to the overall look.
Warm, elegant, and deeply thoughtful, the new Oris x Cervo Volante is more than just a luxury timepiece. In its deep burgundy hues and supple leather, it is a splendid tribute to the season — capturing the very essence of a Swiss autumn on the wrist.
