Laurent Ferrier Unveils Two New Versions of its Micro-Rotor Model

Watches and Wonders 2023 has impressed us with some wonderful timepieces including Laurent Ferrier’s two new versions of the Micro-Rotor model: the Square Micro-Rotor Evergreen and the Classic Micro-Rotor Evergreen. At first glance, the contemporary design exudes an easy elegance that seamlessly blends with functionality. GMT India takes a closer look at the novelties.

The Classic Micro-Rotor Evergreen

Going Green

The deep green ‘evergreen’ shade — that represents nature, growth and renewal — allows the watches’ timeless character to shine through. At the heart of the latest references of the Micro-Rotor lies an enduring elegance further emphasised by the dial’s deep green that conveys a sense of harmony.

The first of the two available iterations of the Laurent Ferrier Micro-Rotor model boasts a square, cushion-shaped stainless steel case paired with a delicate deep green dial with a vertical satin-brushed finish. The second sports the same green dial with its refined finishes, nestled in a classic, round 18 ct gold case. The 18 ct white gold and red gold indices guarantee optimal legibility on the respective models.

The Square Micro-Rotor Evergreen sports a square, cushion-shaped stainless steel case.

Case in Point

Both the models feature the Laurent Ferrier signature tapered profile. The Classic case is round, crafted in 18 ct red gold with a diameter of 40mm. It draws inspiration from the elegant and understated pocket watches of the 19th century and pairs it with the brand’s refined aesthetic codes.

The Classic model features a green dial nestled in a classic, round 18 ct gold case.

The iconic Square case, measuring 41mm x 41mm, delivers a more assertive presence on the wrist. The aerodynamic curves, symmetry and sharp lines amp up the sophisticated appeal of the timepiece.

The ball-shaped winding crown in both cases offer a smooth handling. The sapphire crystal caseback provides a full view of the movement. Yet, only the watchmakers will be able to access the calibre via the olivette, located at the bottom of the back bezel. Both the Square and the Classic cases are water resistant up to 30 metres.

Technical Prowess

Both the variants of the Laurent Ferrier Micro-Rotor model blend traditional principles of watchmaking with modern technical advances. The watches are powered by the self-winding FBN 229.01 calibre, a Laurent Ferrier signature. The movement is also equipped with a micro-rotor with natural escapement. The watches feature a unidirectional ratchet-type micro rotor, with a power reserve of three days.

This exclusive Laurent Ferrier movement has been designed, assembled and adjusted in the LF workshops. It comes with a silicon escapement with a double direct impulse to the balance wheel: an innovation that allows the balance to be restarted twice per oscillation, requiring two escapement wheels and a pallet-lever with adjusted geometry. The combination of this modern composition with the use of cutting-edge materials maximises energy efficiency. In turn, this escapement’s excellent efficiency ensures a high amplitude balance wheel. The winding mechanism is optimised since less mechanical force is needed to wind the barrel spring.

The watch is paired with a brown calf leather strap, hand-stitched, with matching Alcantara lining.

The Square Micro-Rotor Evergreen reference is paired with a brown calf leather strap, hand-stitched, with matching Alcantara lining with stainless steel buckle. The Classic Micro-Rotor Evergreen uses a matching 18 ct red gold buckle. The elegance of these timepieces lends itself easily to both everyday wear and formal attire.
