Romancing the Spin-Stone: Roger Dubuis Introduces Another Excalibur Blacklight Model

Known for futuristic complications and disruptive materials, Roger Dubuis sets a new benchmark every time the brand releases a skeleton timepiece. Each timepiece from the watchmaker is created with great skill, technique and uniqueness. Indeed, the brand offers collectors something beyond just a traditional experience of viewing time.

Each spinel has been synthetically grown in order to achieve the exact shades, uniformity, and luminescence desired, using a challenging technique that ensures colour and light blend perfectly to attain the most flawless results.

After introducing its Excalibur Blacklight Monobalancier (Ref. RDDBEX1014) as a boutique exclusive and a 28-piece, limited-edition model last month, Roger Dubuis has put forth another Blacklight Edition model, the Excalibur Blacklight Spin-Stone Monobalancier (Ref. RDDBEX0950). The latest offering is also a boutique exclusive and a 28-piece, limited-edition model.

The new Excalibur Blacklight Spin-Stone™ Monobalancier is the the most colourful, luminous and precious expression of Roger Dubuis so far.

This new timepiece from the Maison takes Swiss watchmaking to a whole new level wherein every detailing has a flashy effect. The 42 mm watch has been crafted from EON gold. The precious material has also been used for the bezel, which is set with synthetic sapphires Spin-Stone in gradient hues with luminescence and an EON gold crown. The displayed red and blue colour rainbow is created via Super-LumiNova coating for better time-viewing experience in any given condition.

Beyond the stellar dusk-mimicry of the vibrant Spin-Stones™, the Maison has worked more magic and created beautiful contrast with a 42mm Eon-Gold™ case

The 3D pink gold-plated double surface flange, set with curved synthetic spinels, makes up the frame of the calibre. The signature Star of the Maison has been made using micro-rays of different hues, coloured with  solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN). At the centre of the Star lies a fluorescent diamond while the Excalibur Blacklight Spin-Stone Monobalancier‘s triple surface hands in pink gold have a satin brushed surface, along with polished and pink gold-plated hour markers, filled with black SLN in the centre.

This multi-toned effect gives the watch its chromatic look, and perfectly showcases Roger Dubuis’ enduring dedication to the intricate art of luminescence.

Turning the watch over reveals the EON gold sapphire skeleton caseback with the sapphire crystal, featuring the engraving of the individual watch numbers, and four visible screws. Powering the watch is the in-house Caliber RD720SQ with a 72-hour power reserve. The micro rotor has been improved to minimise the vibrations of the movement via doubling the balance wheel inertia. In order to achieve greater efficiency and energy transmission, the shape of the escapement has been enhanced via diamond-coated silicon and a new lube.

While audacious colours define the Excalibur Blacklight Spin-StoneTM MB, the balance of additional materials provides a striking contrast.

The Excalibur Blacklight Spin-Stone Monobalancier comes with a calfskin strap that can be replaced using the quick-change system with a pink gold cover with titanium blades. There is a triple folding clasp, also with a quick release system.
