Vulcain Introduces a Class Monopusher into the Cricket André ‘DIDIXEIN’ Didisheim Watch
Well, it seems that ace horologist Guillaume Laidet of Vulcain is on a mission to revive classic collections. After releasing its Vulcain Cricket ‘Style Moderne’ for Revolution and The Rake this month, limited to only 50 pieces, Vulcain and CronotempVs Collectors, a private watch collectors’ club, have put forth a limited-edition watch, titled Cricket André ‘DIDIXEIN’ Didisheim. It has been created as a tribute to André Didisheim, descendant of the founder of Vulcain and talented Real Madrid midfielder. It is a 47-piece limited-edition watch.
André Didisheim, grandson of the founder of Vulcain, Maurice Didisheim, could play tennis and could ski, but he was more inclined towards football. In 1909, he played in three matches in a small tournament in Madrid as well as in two tie-break matches against Gimnástica Segoviana Club de Fútbol and the subsidiary Madrid team of the Athletic de Bilbao, where he scored a goal in each match. He also played for Real Madrid Club de Fútbol, a professional football club, based in Madrid, Spain. The club was established in 1902 as the Madrid Football Club and boasts some serious records, including 35 La Liga titles, 19 Copa del Rey trophies and 14 European Cup/Champions League and 2 UEFA Cup honours.
While in Madrid FC, his name Didisheim was changed to “Didixein”. Paying tribute to André Didisheim, the Vulcain x CronotempVs Collectors limited edition Cricket watch has a 39mm diameter case with engraved steel polished case-back.
The 39 mm Cricket André ‘DIDIXEIN’ Didisheim stainless steel watch comes with a stainless steel case, integrated lugs, a grey dial with Arabic numerals for hour markers and diamond shaped 12 o’clock with Super-LumiNova. This model also gets Alpha hour, minute hands, a red seconds hand and a black arrow-shaped alarm hand that points at a peripheral track, with 10-minute intervals to set the time of the alarm. It is also interesting to see separate minute markers on the inner periphery of the dial with a grey ring.
The crown placed at 3 o'clock can be used to manually wind the watch movement in one direction to set the alarm; winding in the opposite direction will set the time. The pusher placed at 2 o’clock also sets the alarm. The case contains the Vulcain Caliber V-10, manually wound with a double barrel, with 50 hours of power reserve. This movement has a Yoke winding system — here the coupling wheel can be used to both wind the watch and adjust the watch hands.
Turning the watch over showcases the 12-sided double caseback with four resonance chambers for better sound clarity of the alarms. You can find the words, ‘Sold The World Over’, on the central part of the caseback. The outer periphery of the caseback also includes the engraving of the individual watch number and “André ‘DIDIXEIN’ Didisheim”.The Vulcain watch is finished on a brown calf leather strap that has a stainless steel pin buckle.
