Ferdinand Berthoud Releases the Final Edition of the Chronomètre FB 2T Movement

This year, luxury watch brand Ferdinand Berthoud is bidding farewell to its iconic Chronomètre FB 2T movement. Its swansong has taken the form of the new Ref. FB 2T.2 variant. To be precise, this is the third watch in the farewell saga, where the movement will make its appearance for the last time. This limited-edition collection, featuring a round case for the first time, will have only 38 movements.

Ferdinand Berthoud says goodbye to the movement that made the brand's return possible, with a last limited run of round watches.

Early this year, Ferdinand Berthoud released two variants with the hallowed movement. One was crafted from 18 ct rose gold with a ruthenium satin-brushed dial and the other was in 18 ct white gold with a blue satin-brushed dial. The luxury timepiece maker has introduced the final timepiece, FB 2T.2, in a 44 mm 18 ct rose gold case with a black satin-brushed dial. Since the commencement of its journey in the world of horology, the collection, which included a hidden tourbillon or the FB 1 Regulator, has seen several variations.

Built around an old-school pillar construction, just like marine clocks designed by Berthoud, this chronometer-certified movement was characterized by the technical choices, all of which are both extremely traditional and technically advanced.

With a round case, the off-centred subdial for hours and minutes sits at 12 o’clock. The faceted, skeletonised, dagger-shaped hours and minutes hands are made of silver while the black numeral markers are crafted in 18 ct rose gold. The model comes with a base plate made of vertical satin-brushed brass with black rhodium treatment. The outer periphery of the watch has a silver-toned and black-varnished railway-type seconds track. The power reserve hand indicator at 9 o’clock is engraved on the mainplate and is crafted in 18 ct gold with blue CVD-treatment for its arrow-shaped hand. The central sweep-seconds hand is made of gilded bronze, sporting a ‘CHRONOMÈTRE VAL-DE-TRAVERS SUISSE’ inscription.

The Ferdinand Berthoud Chronomètre FB 2T “Final Edition” watches are presented in 3 references, but these are used as sources of inspiration for collectors who will have the opportunity to create their own customised timepiece by choosing the case material, the colour and the finishing of the dial and the leather strap.

The crown at 3 o’clock is made of 18 ct rose gold, with a black ceramic medallion. The Ferdinand Berthoud Chronomètre FB 2T.2 watch has a double opening for the one-minute flying tourbillon and the direct-drive seconds system. The watch is powered by manual winding, in-house Calibre FB-T.FC-2 with 53 hours of power reserve. Turning each watch over reveals the 18 ct rose gold skeleton caseback with six visible screws and the ‘Edition Finale’, fitted with a glare-proof sapphire crystal pane. What’s more, the timepiece is finished on a hand-sewn black leather strap with a length-adjustable, twin-blade folding clasp in 18 ct rose gold. There is also the option of a pin buckle, which can be made available on request.
