Maurice Lacroix Reveals the New 39 mm AIKON Skeleton Urban Tribe Timepiece

Over the years, timepiece makers have collaborated with various artists and creators to make their flagship collections stand out. Various art forms have influenced horological creations as well. Take music, architecture or even tattoos. Maurice Lacroix is one luxury watch brand that tilts towards urban art and architecture. Its latest AIKON Urban Tribe (Ref. AI6007-SS009-030-1) collection, a 500-piece limited edition, draws inspiration from tall architectural buildings that make for a contemporary city skyline.

For close to half a decade, the AIKON collection has firmly held its ground as one of the most sought-after editions in the world of timepieces. Many watchmakers have now realised that there is a substantially good market for watches meant for thinner wrists; keeping watches under 40 mm can, thus, be a lucrative decision. The AIKON model, launched in 2021, had a chunkier 42 mm case. Last year, Maurice Lacroix revealed the AIKON Skeleton as a 39 mm variant. This year, the timepiece maker maintains the 39 mm dimension in the newest skeleton dial model. 

The new Maurice Lacroix AIKON Urban Tribe watch bears resemblance to the 42 mm variant as well. It gets the signature engraved patterns of the Urban Tribe series, right from its case to the bracelet. In fact, the latest Maurice Lacroix AIKON Urban Tribe watch is inspired by the concrete, glass, and steel structures, which have come to define the avenues and boulevards in the world’s most vibrant cities. This compact watch is housed in a stainless steel barrel-shaped case. The round bezel has six ‘double claws’ ― a signature element of the AIKON collection ― with some modifications.

The dial of the watch gets a sapphire plate, showcasing most of the movement; it also comes with faceted, applied hour markers and sword-shaped hour, minute hands, filled with Super-LumiNova. Overall, the dark grey watch sports a monochromatic look. The outer periphery of the watch gets a grey chapter ring for its minute track that is light coloured at the bottom but moves to a darker shade on the top.

Powering the watch is the automatic skeleton ML135 movement with 38 hours of power reserve. The movement is based on the SW200-1 architecture, created exclusively by Sellita for Maurice Lacroix. Turning the watch over showcases the sapphire skeleton caseback with a stainless steel oscillating weight. The Maurice Lacroix AIKON Skeleton watch is worn on an integrated five-link stainless steel bracelet, which has been engraved in the same way as the case. It is closed by a butterfly buckle and fitted with the brand’s Easychange system.
