Orange Chic: TAG Heuer and Porsche Unveil a New Chronograph
In 1969, Jack Heuer, the honorary chairman of TAG Heuer, signed Swiss Porsche driver Jo Siffert, one of the most popular Formula One drivers in the 1960s, for the first F1 race to feature a non-automotive brand. This led to two legendary brand logos — TAG Heuer and Porsche — appearing together on Siffert’s racing suit.
Several automobile giants have collaborated with some of the best names in horology. But if there is one collaboration that has stood the test of time, it is that of TAG Heuer and Porsche, celebrating almost seven decades of their core partnership. Ferdinand Porsche founded the iconic brand to make practical and superior sports cars that would only reach the podium. The same philosophy holds true for TAG Heuer-Carrera timepieces, whose designs have remained as they were since their debut in 1963.
After showcasing two chronographs dedicated to the iconic 911, TAG Heuer and Porsche have just unveiled the latest offering, TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche Orange Racing (Ref. CBN2A1M.FC6526). The newly launched chronograph follows in the footsteps of the TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronograph and the TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche Limited Edition.
Maintaining all the right notes of a Porsche, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche Orange Racing captures one’s attention with its orange hues — you can find them on the Porsche logo, the bezel, the crown and the counters. The 44 mm watch has been crafted from diamond-like carbon (DLC) and the dial takes inspiration from the kinetics and speed of an F1 car.
The chic watch comes with a black ceramic tachymeter-fixed bezel with a PORSCHE engraving. Orange hues with white markings can be seen on the outer periphery of the watch on a black vertical brushed dial. The three orange-outlined chronograph counters feature a 30-minute subdial at 3 o’clock with a black ‘azuré’ minute hand and black gold plating with an orange tip and polished hands. There is a seconds subdial at 6 o’clock with black gold and black grain texture, along with a black polished hand. The 12-hour subdial sports black gold plating, an orange tip and polished hands at 9 o’clock. On the dial, you can see orange-coloured seconds hand, baton-shaped and stainless steel hour and minute hands. At 12 o’clock, the Carrera and TAG Heuer logos take pride of place.
In the same DLC coating, the watch features two chronograph functions to start and restart the function at 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock. There’s a DLC-coated and orange-lacquered steel crown at 3 o’clock.
Turning the watch over reveals the black DLC-coated stainless steel screw-down sapphire caseback with a custom-designed black oscillating weight that replicates the Porsche steering wheel. The caseback also has the engravings of ‘Porsche’ and ‘TAG Heuer’ and features an interplay of black and orange, such as on the column wheel.
Powering the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Porsche Orange Racing chronograph is the in-house Calibre HEUER 02 Automatic movement with an 80-hour power reserve. The watch is finished on a soft-touch, textured, black calfskin leather strap with an orange lining and a DLC steel folding clasp with double-safety push buttons.
This is not a diver’s watch. So do not plan to wear this for a swim in deep waters as the water resistance is up to 100 metres.
