Parmigiani Fleurier Introduces the New Tonda PF Sport Collection in Stainless Steel and Rose Gold

Parmigiani Fleurier has just unveiled the new Tonda PF Sport Chronograph and the Tonda PF Sport Automatic watches. The Tonda PF collection was launched in September 2021. Since then, some of its technically radiant timepieces have grabbed the attention of the watch community. Let's now examine in detail the latest offerings.

Looking at the new collection, you will notice that the bezel is less knurled in comparison to the previous generation of Tonda PF models. This knurled bezel comprises 160 incisions, instead of the 225 incisions found on the bezel of the regular Tonda PF collection. Both models come in stainless steel and 18 ct rose gold cases with  screw-in crowns and tear-drop lugs in the same material as that of the case.

Both timepieces get new clou triangulaire guilloché textures for the dials, replacing the hand-guilloché pattern. The applied hour markers, and hour and minute hands are now coated with black SuperLumiNova; they are crafted either from stainless steel or 18 ct rose gold. Also common to both the Tonda PF Sport Chronograph and the Tonda PF Sport Automatic watch is the skeleton caseback with a 22 ct rose gold oscillating weight.

Tonda PF Sport Chronograph
Given the brand’s rise in popularity and its impressive technical and design evolution over the past few years, it’s difficult to say if Parmigiani still qualifies as a “dark horse” in the modern luxury watch landscape.

The 42 mm chronograph in stainless steel (Ref. PFC931-1020001-400182) or in 18 ct rose gold (Ref. PFC931-2020001-400182)  gets a panda dial with a black trifecta layout — a 12-hour subdial at 9 o’clock, a 60-seconds subdial at 6 o’clock, and a 30-minute subdial at 3 o’clock. The same material can also be found on the two chronograph pushers at 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock. Both watches come with black backgrounds and each has a white numeral date window at 4:30. The hour markers on the stainless steel model get 18 ct gold rhodium plating while on the rose gold model, the hour markers have 18 ct rose gold coating.

Parmigiani presents the Tonda PF Sport family – a more technically complex, visually bolder, and significantly more upscale sporting take on the fan-favorite Tonda PF silhouette.

Powering the chronograph is a high-frequency Calibre PF070, delivering a power reserve of 65 hours and 5Hz frequency. Turning each watch over showcases the skeleton caseback crafted from the same material as that of the case and a 22 ct oscillating weight, which is inspired by the steering wheel of a Ferrari 250 GTO. The collection is finished on a black rubber strap either with a stainless steel or an 18 ct rose gold folding clasp.

Tonda PF Sport Automatic

The second model is this straightforward time-and-date Parmigiani Tonda PF Sport Automatic with a 41mm diameter and thickness of 9.8m, flaunting the more pronounced notches on the bezel.

This collection sports a simple date function complication and comes in a 41 mm stainless steel (Ref. PFC930-1020001-400182) or an 18 ct rose gold (Ref. PFC930-2020001-400182) case. The case material can also be found on the lugs, the crown, and the bezel. The hour markers and the hour, minute and second hands on the stainless steel model get 18 ct gold rhodium plating while on the rose gold model, the hour markers, along with hour, minute and second hands, get 18 ct rose gold coating.

This 179-part in-house automatic beats at 28,800vph (4Hz), and the movement is decorated with refined finishings like bevelled edges and Côte de Genève.

The dial gets a silver clou triangulaire guilloché pattern and a date window with a black background and white numeral at 6 o’clock. Powering this collection is Calibre PF770 with 60 hours of power reserve. Also, like the chronograph, this watch showcases the skeleton caseback in the same material as that of the case and a 22 ct oscillating weight, inspired by the steering wheel of a Ferrari 250 GTO. The collection is finished on a black rubber strap either with a stainless steel or an 18 ct rose gold folding clasp.
