Peak Performance: Roger Dubuis Unleashes the New Excalibur Spider Huracán Sterrato MB Watch

In a realm that is always in a state of flux, Roger Dubuis has consistently set fresh benchmarks for fine watchmaking. Taking its core concept of Hyper Horology™ to a whole new level, the luxury brand has just released the new Excalibur Spider Huracán Sterrato MB (Ref. RDDBEX1059) as a 28-piece limited edition model.

If we look at brands like Lamborghini and Roger Dubuis, you can easily see the common thread binding them ― perfection. Ferruccio Lamborghini, the automobile brand’s founder, who was initially a tractor manufacturer, perfected the art of sports cars, as evidenced by the workmanship seen in products like Miura, Countach, Diablo, and now Aventador and Huracán. Roger Dubuis too has striven for high technological innovations and put forth a series of horological marvels over the years. No wonder the creative collaboration between the two brands has gone from strength to strength.

Drawing inspiration from the design of Lamborghini Squadra Corse, the new Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Huracán watch follows the aesthetics of the orange model that the timepiece maker launched in 2022. The watch comes in a 45 mm sheet moulding compound (SMC) carbon case with lugs made of the same material. It is said that SMC carbon is nine times lighter than gold. So, expect the watch to be comfortable for your wrist. There is a 60-minute titanium black DLC bezel that symbolises the hardy fender protectors that provide advanced security to, say, a Lamborghini.

At 3 o’clock is the bolt-shaped black DLC titanium crown, inspired by the Huracán’s racing nuts; it has a blue lacquered ring. The dial gets a blue lower flange with transferred texts and minute tracks, and a black upper flange with screw-like hour markers that are rhodium-plated and filled with SLN. The timepiece also gets two sharp blue bars on the dial, stretching from 12 o’clock to 5 and 7 o’clock — they are a nod to the roof racks found on a Lamborghini.

The limited edition timepiece sports white gold hour and minute hands, coated with black PVD, along with blue outlined tips, filled with SLN; a seconds hand, varnished in blue, with a white outlined tip; and a date window at 6 o’clock. Powering the watch is the Calibre RD630, an automatic, self-winding movement. The calibre is built with a twin barrel power supply, allowing it to reach a power reserve of 60 hours.

Turning the watch over showcases the black DLC titanium open caseback with the sapphire crystal and the metallised Excalibur Huracàn logo. Wearers will also find that the oscillating weight is designed like a supercar wheel rim. The watch is finished on a rubber and camo-pattern strap, sporting a black DLC titanium cover, with titanium blades and a triple folding clasp with an interchangeable Quick Release System.
