Ressence Unveils Sage Green TYPE 8S Timepiece

Since its inception in 2010, Ressence, founded by Benoît Mintiens, has been creating timepieces that take time-viewing experience to a whole new level. As the name suggests, Ressence is a portmanteau of ‘Renaissance’ and ‘essence’. Over the years, the brand has dedicated itself to reinventing and reinterpreting its offerings with ultra-modern technology and design aesthetics.

The Type 8 brings the brand more within reach for many fans of Mintiens’s work.

This year, Ressence has unveiled its pre-Watches and Wonders timepiece: TYPE 8S (Sage Green) in grade 5 titanium, weighing just 42 gm. The newly launched Ressence TYPE 8S is a sequel to the Cobalt Blue Type 8 that the manufacturer released at the 2022 Watches and Wonders, held in Geneva.

The case features a mixture of polished and brushed surfaces to cleverly emphasize the unique lines of the case.

Keeping the minimalist and futuristic theme in mind, the 42.9 mm Ressence TYPE 8S watch has a polished grade 5 titanium case with a domed sapphire crystal. It gets a sage green dial with a separate hours window. The Ressence logo sits at 12 o’clock on the hours window. The timepiece comes with simple white baton markers while the dial itself comprises rotating discs set into the same plane.

The result of all this is a watch that is only 11mm thick, and super comfortable to wear.

Its wearer will also notice that the Ressence TYPE 8S watch doesn’t have any crown to wind up the date or time. On a Ressence model, it is the titanium caseback that intuitively rotates to set the time while simultaneously winding the mechanical movement. Manual winding and time setting can be viewed through a bi-directional rotating caseback. The hours and minutes hands have Super-LumiNova to make time-viewing super convenient under any light condition.

The convex dial is also made from Grade 5 titanium, ensuring that the weight is as low as possible.

Turning the watch over showcases the titanium caseback with eight visible screws and the ‘Ressence TYPE 8’ engraving. The watch has got no extra technological features, no seconds hands — one can find a simple hour and minute hand.

For the Type 8, the brand developed the ROCS 8, which, just like its peers, is based on the traditional ETA caliber 2892-2.

Powering the watch is the self-winding calibre 2892/2 Ressence Orbital Convex System that delivers a power reserve of 36 hours and a 4Hz frequency. The platinum case gives this watch a water resistance of 10 metres. Completing the overall look of the watch is a grey leather strap, coupled with a polished ardillon buckle in grade 5 titanium.

While the Ressence Type 8 might not be a completely new model, it still offers that exciting feel of a new timepiece.

The Ressence TYPE 8S will be available in both finishes worldwide from early May 2023 via the brand’s official retailers network. It will be on display at the watch gala, Watches & Wonders, which will be held in Geneva from March 27 to April 5.
