The design of the Royal Oak Offshore dates back to 1989 when Audemars Piguet designer Emmanuel Gueit put forth a conceptual sketch of a more robust version of the watch. This larger and sportier design faced criticism from legendary designer Gerald Genta, but younger collectors preferred the larger case size. The Royal Oak Offshore was nicknamed The Beast due to its imposing size and weight.

The watch comes with a white 950 platinum octagonal case, 44 mm in diameter and 14.45 mm thick. Finished on either a blue alligator leather strap or a silicone strap, the timepiece has a fixed black ceramic bezel. The Blue Mega Tapisserie dial has luminous silver-tone hands, index hour markers, minute markers, and tachymeter markings around the outer rim. The functions include chronograph, tachymeter, date, hour, and minute. You can spot a date display at 3 o'clock. The chronograph has three subdials displaying 60 seconds, 30 minutes, and 12 hours. The watch is run by the Audemars Piguet Calibre 3126/3840 Automatic movement, based on Audemars Piguet 3120. It contains 59 jewels and is composed of 365 parts.
