Two New Classics Crown 250 Years of Breguet’s Horological Legacy

How did Breguet find its element? It’s not easy to answer. But its fundamentals can be traced to A.L. Breguet’s vision, passion, and a knack for non-conformity. The now-iconic ‘Breguet hands’ — slender, eccentric, and punctuated by hollowed-out tips — stand as the Maison’s signature flourish. They are more than just design; they are identity. Coded by Abraham, the master watchmaker blended precision with poetry and went on to redefine the fundamentals of fine watchmaking.

In 1794, Breguet created Watch No. 5, a piece that was anything but conventional. While others sought classicism, Breguet sought contrast. The timepiece was unapologetically modern for its era; it was a blend of craft and science that captured a new language of watchmaking, disruptive and innovative. Two and a half centuries later, Breguet pays a fitting tribute to this pioneering spirit with the Classique 7235, a reinterpretation that bridges centuries of innovation.

This is not merely a watch. It is Breguet’s mirror, reflecting 250 years of craftsmanship, innovation, and the daring to remain unmistakably itself.

Classique 7235

Crafted in 18K Breguet gold, the watch embodies a harmony between restraint and richness. Its dial, adorned with a hand-guilloché Quai de l’Horloge motif — a nod to Breguet’s historic Parisian atelier — unfolds in layers of intricate texture. The guilloché radiates in a hypnotic swirl that reaches its crescendo at 5 o’clock, as if time itself bends in deference to the past.

At its heart beats the ultra-thin calibre 502.3.DRL, equipped with a silicon balance spring — a union of heritage and high-tech mastery. It’s manually wound, much like a quiet ritual between the wearer and time itself. The case, remarkably slim at under 4mm, rests against the wrist like a second skin; it’s almost imperceptible, yet profoundly present.

Breguet pays homage to its heritage in subtle ways. The moon at 2 o’clock is an exact reproduction of the one featured on the N°5 watch of 1794. It is also made of Breguet gold. Flip the Classique 7235 over, and Breguet rewards your curiosity. Beneath its expansive sapphire caseback is a movement that is entirely hand-engraved, a master craftsmanship reserved only for Breguet’s most exceptional creations.

Classique Régulateur à Pivot Magnétique 7225

As Breguet celebrates its 250th anniversary, another chapter unfolds — the Classique 7225, a companion piece that embodies the Maison’s ceaseless dialogue between tradition and progress. Where the 7235 pays homage to heritage, the 7225 looks forward quietly, confidently.

Crafted in 18K gold, it bears the familiar silhouette of Breguet’s timeless codes, namely the fluted caseband, the guilloché dial,  and the tempered balance between restraint and radiance. Yet beneath that calm lies a revolution: a magnetic-pivot balance and a 10 Hz high-frequency escapement, technologies that push precision to its very limits. It’s an audacious gesture — proof that Breguet’s innovation is not a relic of the past but its living pulse.

Turn the 7225 over, and the sapphire caseback reveals a panorama of hand-engraved artistry, mechanical poetry laid bare. Together, the 7235 and 7225 are not commemorative timepieces — they are conversation pieces between centuries. A dialogue between the hands that once shaped horology’s first masterpieces, and the minds that continue to shape its future.
