Angelus Pays Tribute to a Timeless Jim Morrison Song by Launching its New Chronodate at Geneva Watch Days 2023

In 1942, Angelus showcased its first calendar chronograph, called the Chronodate. Over the years, the timepiece has witnessed variations. This year, the luxury timepiece maker has expanded the Chronodate family with a new variant, which has just been launched at the ongoing Geneva Watch Days. Sporting a contemporary look, the new Chronodate Titanium Storm Blue Edition takes over from the previous variants that were unveiled in black, fern green, navy blue, and opaline white.

The watch is named after the last song — ‘Riders on the Storm’ — written by The Doors lead singer, Jim Morrison, in 1971 before he went to Paris. The song, based on a rainy night and a road trip, is a cult classic and an anthem for travellers who prefer road trips to any other form of travel. The case, the crown, and the monobloc case middle of the 42.5 mm Storm Blue Edition are crafted from titanium. The chamber, the bezel ring, and the two push buttons at 2 o’clock and 4 o’clock (for starting and resetting the chrono function respectively), on the other hand, are crafted from carbon composite. The storm blue-dialled watch gets a blue outer periphery for the date numerals marked in black while the minute marking below it sits on a black chapter ring with white markings.

There is a snailed 30-minute chronograph counter in metallic black at 3 o’clock with a red hand and a small seconds counter at 9 o’clock with a white hand. There are applique hour and minute hands with Super-LumiNova, a red-tipped central second hand, and a red arrow-tipped peripheral hand for the date markings. Complementing this arrangement are white-hued, Super-LumiNova-filled Arabic hour markers that cover 8 o’clock, 10 o’clock, 2 o’clock, and 4 o’clock.

Powering the watch is A-500, a self-winding mechanical automatic movement, delivering 60 hours of power reserve, when the watch is fully wound. Turning the watch over showcases the sapphire caseback with the tungsten oscillating weight, shaped like the Angelus ‘A’ logo with a star. The watch is finished on a rubber strap (Ref. 0CDZF.U02A.K009B) or a titanium bracelet (Ref. 0CDZF.U03A.M009T). The finishing fits the contemporary design of the watch and includes sandblasted, microbead-blasted, and NAC-treated plates and bridges, and circular-grained, rhodium-plated wheels.
