Nomos Showcases the New Tangente Roségold Neomatik, a Striking Dress Watch

Glashütte has a long history of watchmaking, dating back to the 19th century. This is a small town in the eastern part of Germany, situated in the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge). The region is known as a centre for precision watchmaking. Several prestigious watchmaking companies have their origins or are based in Glashütte. Among them is German watchmaking company Nomos Glashütte, which has just launched a devilishly handsome variant of its popular wristwatch model, Nomos Tangente. It’s a striking dress watch.

Dress watches are characterised by their understated and sophisticated design, often featuring slim profiles and minimalistic dials, and focusing on aesthetics rather than on advanced functionalities. Dress watches are, generally, considered a key accessory in formal dressing. They complement formal attire, adding a touch of refinement to a person's overall look. The right dress watch can enhance a person's style and make a subtle yet powerful statement. Nomos dress watches are considered status symbols. These stupendous timepieces are crafted with meticulous attention to detail. The artistry involved in creating these timepieces — right from the movement to the case and the dial — contributes to their enduring appeal.

Honouring 175 years of German watchmaking, the new Nomos Tangente Roségold Neomatik is limited to only 175 pieces. Nomos has crafted the Tangente from 18 ct rose gold. One of Nomos’s main goals is to keep the dimensions of all watches in check, both in terms of width and height. For the Tangente, this means compact 35 mm width, a size that is perfect for everyone. The typical straight and angled lugs have drilled holes to swap straps without too much effort. The case design draws inspiration from the 1930s and recalls the design of many watches produced in the Glashütte area at that time. A flat sapphire crystal covers both the front and the back of the watch.

This Tangente Neomatik in a way gets a two-tone dial. The minute ring and the small seconds subdial are rose gold-coloured and paired with burgundy printed indices and markings. The new model comes with a dial that is galvanically white silver-plated, but with a sub-seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and hour and minute markers in rose gold. There are five Arabic and six straight-lined numerals for hour markers. Powering the timepiece is Calibre DUW 3001, which is only 3.2 mm in height and delivers a power reserve of approximately 43 hours.

The efficiency of the calibre has also gone through significant improvements, as it is now 94.2 percent precise, an achievement that experts find almost unbelievable — this means friction loss is down to 5.8 percent. Flipping the watch over reveals the Tangente’s mechanics; there is a stainless steel oscillating weight, along with the engraving of ‘Limited Edition Tangente-175 Years of Watchmaking Glashütte’ and ‘XX/175’ for the individual watch number. The watch is finished on a brown leather strap.
